Appalachian State QB is benefitting from NIL thanks to his unique last name.

The redshirt freshman QB linked up with a local restaurant called The Cardinal to launch “The Ryan Burger.” Per Burger’s announcement, the burger will have “two blackened all-beef patties, Carolina Gold BBQ sauce, Ashe County cheddar, tobacco onions, bacon, local greens, and Duke’s mayo on a Carter’s bakery bun.” The burger will be available all season long.

Burger’s announcement featured a promotional video and has been viewed over 38,000 times. Other users were quick to call the video “brilliant,” and “NIL gold.” This is a neat NIL deal because it should surely increase sales at a local small business while also benefitting Burger financially.

Burger was originally a three-star prospect out of Myrtle Beach High School in South Carolina. As a true freshman in 2022, Burger saw action in one game. The young signal-caller saw action against Robert Morris, completing four of his six pass attempts for 40 yards. Burger also rushed twice for 23 yards, and App State would go on to win 42–3.

Burger figures to be the favorite to earn the starting QB job now that Chase Brice is out of town.
