Baseball is being ruined by greed.
Were you looking forward to Opening Day baseball???
Well I sure hope not, because if you were, I’m about to ruin your day.
Per multiple sources, commissioner Rob Manfred has canceled the first two series’ of the season.
This is absolutely inexcusable. And no, it’s not ENTIRELY one side’s fault. But there is one person who bears more responsible for this disaster than anyone else.
Rob Manfred holds many titles- lawyer, business executive, chairman, commissioner, asshole, moron, etc. What is undeniable is that under his leadership, MLB has suffered and will continue to suffer.
While the TV ratings for the 2021 season were good (better than the NBA ratings, FYI), they weren’t where they could be. It’s no secret that baseball fans are an older demographic- this is a known problem that not much has been done about.
Rob Manfred, when hired as commissioner, actually noted that one of his goals was to “attract a younger generation of fans”. Well, this goal has failed miserably to this point. The average American kid can’t name one baseball player. Mike Trout is a generational talent, akin to Stephen Curry or Patrick Mahomes. Would Trout even be recognized in most public settings?
