The Pac-12 is getting creative in finding NIL opportunities for its student-athletes.

Back in August of 2022, the Pac-12 announced a partnership with Opendorse and Twitter to allow athletes to earn revenue from posting highlights on Twitter.

Now, the Pac-12 is teaming up with Curastory and Tempus Ex to provide a way for athletes to receive revenue by commentating on their highlight clips. This deal will start with football players, but will eventually be available to every Pac-12 student-athlete.

Tempus Ex will provide the highlights while Curastory allows for the videos to be monetized via ad revenue. Tempus Ex’s high-tech system will send clips to participating players immediately after the games. Players will receive multiple camera angles and will have the ability to then add their own commentary and place ads on the videos.

“Student-athletes are a really interesting group because most of them are Gen Z,” Curastory CEO Tiffany Kelly told Awful Announcing. “Gen Z also tends to understand social media more than older generations. Building media companies, video businesses, and thriving podcasts across social media is a priority for them and something they’ve been wildly successful with.”

Kelly also emphasized the massive earning potential for these athletes. According to Kelly, if football players post 1 video per week during the season, they will earn a combined $3 million.
